Mares Exterminating Company, LLC was founded in 2004 by Thomas Michael Mares, a lifelong Peninsula resident.  Tom started his career with Munn’s Pest Control, working up quickly from a pest control technician to sales manager before striking out on his own.  Mares Exterminating grew steadily from one licensed technician to a second, another former Munn’s employee and high school friend, Ben Smith.  Next came the repair specialists – all of whom were required to hold pesticide licenses.  From the beginning, Tom wanted to provide quality and value – these are the hallmarks of his business.

In March 2007, Mares Exterminating Company purchased the assets of Munn’s Pest Control and the combined companies began operating under the trade name of Mares and Munn Exterminating Company.  Throughout 2007, Mares & Munn underwent radical change.  Ben Smith became Vice President and took charge of the Pest Control Division; Luke Shanks became the Home Repair Manager.  The company achieved QualityPro – which required employee background checks and drug tests, continuing professional education in excess of state mandates, and a slight restructuring of company policies to be in compliance with the QualityPro employee/consumer requirements.  New accounting and scheduling software and systems were put into place.

Throughout the transition the main goal has always been quality and value.
