Proven Solutions for Swarming, Damaging Termites

Termites cause more than $4 billion in damage every year — that's more than floods and hurricanes combined. Fortunately, Mares Exterminating is fully trained and equipped to protect your home from termites. We provide a prompt response when you spot a swarm or invasion, and we offer a Termite Protection Plan that includes an annual inspection and preventative treatment.

Termite Protection Plan — One low annual fee includes complete termite protection.

  • Annual inspection by a qualified inspector
  • Necessary treatments that occur while you are covered by the plan

It's important to note that your homeowner's insurance policy may not cover termite damage. While your policy probably covers accidents, it may consider termite damage to be "wear and tear." That's an expensive gamble, and our Termite Protection Plan is a good solution. Call today for your free consultation.

Termite Control Options

When you have Mares Exterminating take care of your termite problem, we have several options from which to choose. We'll draw on over 20 years of experience to determine which method(s) will be most effective in your situation.

Fifty years ago, pest control companies had very few options when it came to termites. Powerful pesticide was about the only tool in the toolbox. Today, things are different. We're more aware of the hazards of pesticide exposure and the effects pesticides have on the environment.

Mares Exterminating uses state-of-the-art technology, modern chemicals with shorter life spans, and barriers. We follow strict regulations that protect you, your home, and the environment (and our technicians).

  • Barriers — We construct a barrier using a repellent termiticide that termites won't cross. Our technician will drill holes or dig trenches and inject the repellent into the ground or your foundation. The termites can't cross the barrier to reach the moisture in the ground, so they'll find somewhere else to go. This method is effective as long as there is no above-ground moisture available, such as condensation on ductwork, leaking pipes, etc. It can also be disrupted by soil movement caused by gardening or repair work.
  • Slow-acting termiticide — We lay out termiticide that the termites carry back to their nest. The chemical destroys the entire colony or large parts of it. The termiticide is applied in much the same way that barriers are created.
  • Termite baiting — We place monitoring stations around areas suspected to be infested by termites. By checking the stations quarterly, we can determine if you have termite activity. If so, we'll add a slow-acting termiticide bait to the stations and eliminate the colony. This method does not require injecting anything into the soil around your home, although there's always the possibility that the termites will simply avoid the bait stations.
  • Regular inspections — Having your home inspected for termites by Mares Exterminating is very important. If you wait until you notice the signs of a termite infestation, the damage has already been done.

Termite Life Cycles and Swarming Behavior

Perhaps the most obvious sign of a termite infestation is a termite swarm. These insects fly, and you may suddenly find yourself in the middle of a swarm of hundreds or thousands of them — possibly inside your home.

Termite swarming activity is most common in the spring. As the ground warms and the rains come, an instinctive drive pushes the termites to form new colonies. Swarmers burst out of their underground colonies and look for soft soil into which they can burrow, begin the reproduction process, and become the kings and queens of new colonies.

They use any means available to reach the surface, and sometimes that means they exit into your home or business. If that happens, you may be able to repel them with mist from a spray bottle filled with water. The weight of the water on their wings makes them unable to fly, so they'll fall to the floor. Take care when using this method in a room that contains electronics.

Another tell-tale sign of termites nearby is that you'll find dead insects all over your floor. Swarmers only live a short time after they're exposed to open air.

The bad news is either scenario indicates that you have at least one termite colony nearby and are likely to have more colonies soon. Call Mares Exterminating for prompt, professional termite control services.

Mares has been our termite inspection company for about 16 years. Every technician who has been to our home (Bruce and Daniel are the ones I remember) has always been very friendly, courteous, and taken their time to do a thorough inspection.

This year, we called them to treat a rodent problem. Bruce came on the scene like a hero with a cape to help us conquer the unwelcome invasion. He thoroughly examined entry points and talked to me about “exclusion,” which is sealing up any holes outside that could allow the little rascals access to our home, then set up traps in several strategic areas. He walked me around and showed me the places where they were “visiting,” and gave me tips for dealing with them.

Mares is a very honest and reputable company, their technicians are excellent, and I highly recommend you give them a call for your pest control issues!
